I have not noticed that the software employs any special level of Pentax-hating (DxO OpticsPro 11, FilmPack 5, Viewpoint 2). James |

Back then, they used a DRM tool called Pace Interlok that really put it hooks into the operating system and there were many reports of it causing all sorts of trouble with users' computers. Moreover, merely uninstalling DxO didn't remove the DRM tool. Repairing a computer sometimes meant reinstalling everything. Also, DxO didn't have profiles for many Pentax cameras or lenses. After having trouble with the software, I switched to another RAW converter, removed all traces of DxO and Pace from my machine and have never touched any of their products again. |

I will say though this version does not include the Prime RAW noise reduction feature, which (imo) is a big part of the appeal of OpticsPro. At least for me. And Pace is one of those things that gets harped on and has seemingly caused issues for some people, but I can't say I've ever experienced any issues with Pace. I use it and have used it for years and years with various audio applications and tools. Looking at the compatibility PDF on the link (below the email address box), this version has support for all current Pentax cameras including the K-1 and the KP. Looks like a nice freebie (with them hoping you upgrade to the Elite edition haha). |
09-28-2017, 09:22 PM | #5 | Senior Member | I didn't notice any DRM when I installed my version, other than online activation. I think online activation has assuaged the piracy fears of even the most paranoid software vendor in a simpler, cheaper, and much less damaging way. Although it does make me wonder if the company will be around to activate the software for future installs -- they seem to have no thought for the consumer, only for their own profit. But that makes the current iteration of DxO no different than (and probably better than) the subscription-only Adobe products. Presumably, Adobe can yank your chain at any time. Also, the software has had profiles ready-to-go for every combination of Pentax camera and lens I've got (although, admittedly, I don't have the $$$ to play with a plethora of bodies or a sea of glass). Supported cameras | DxO.com I've used DxO OP for about 3 years now. Most users who have stuck with it and got to know it like it a lot. I certainly do. |

If I had any complaints it is the GUI is a bit complicated because it has so many knobs and some features can be counter to others. That all being said, The default profiles tend to get me 95% to complete so that I can get an image finalized much faster than I can in LR. The only other issue I have with it is that it doesn't work great for synchronizing edits across images. It works, but it takes more steps than LR. |
